Biography

Tom Richner is currently back on The Simpsons as both a layout and storyboard artist for the show.  He is THRILLED to be back into production and looks forward to the challenges this creative endeavor will throw at him!

Tom was an Associate Professor of Animation at the Columbus College of Art and Design from 2004 to 2017. He specialized in traditional hand drawn animation and taught a number of animation, storyboarding and film design courses.

In 2008, Tom founded Cap City Studios, an animation production entity that draws upon the local animation talent in Columbus, Ohio to produce larger scale animation pieces. The studio has produced some commercials and also an animated pitch piece for a television series. He also works as an independent freelance animation artist on various projects as they come up.

Before moving back to Ohio, Tom was a layout artist and sheet timer on the The Simpsons for six seasons where he started while working on his MFA in graduate school, working closely with the directors and producers on over twenty episodes of that series. He also acted as a consultant on the Electronic Arts' production of The Simpsons Video Game in 2007.

Tom holds an MFA in Animation from the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, as well as a BFA in Fine Arts from Denison University in Granville, Ohio.
