Working on revising a section in my Animatic. Had to rearrange a few shots. Working to finish up the animatic by November 10th for my trip out to L.A. Probably going to have a few late nights this week.

Scene 27 from Animatic
Scene 27/ UCF FILM from tom richner on Vimeo.
This is my first attempt at a 3D shot in Storyboard Pro 3D. It's basically doing what I want it to do. Need to get more comfortable with the tools in the program, but not bad for a first attempt (good enough for the animatic/ time to move on).

Working on Animatic
Working on the animatic for the animated film I am working on. I still do not have title and refer to the film as UCF Film (Untitled Cleveland Film... Film). These are two images from the storyboard. Not terribly exciting right now, but had them on the desktop and thought I'd throw up here. Excited about the bottom image though. This is a 3D model that Mark Fitzpatrick (CCAD Instructor) created for me based on some sketches I gave him. Great modeler. Will be attempting to use this model in Storyboard Pro 3D. Just imported it into the program tonight. Will see how it ends up going!

New Hall Shot With Character
Working this shot up with character in it. First pass. Will play with this some more, but basically what I want to do with this shot. Just reading 'Steal Like An Artist' by Austin Kleon. Good, VERY quick read, but one part he talks about setting up an analog AND digital workstation in his studio and it makes a lot of sense. Did that today (moved all the electronics off of my other table so I can go back to paper and rough the first pass of my new board BEFORE I jump into the computer). Like that hands on feel and you feel more physical with the paper. Then, I can bring it into the computer and begin to start working over top of the rough sketches on paper. Will follow that approach for the next version of this board. Just keeps evolving. I think the story is getting streamlined and with that, I think I'm moving in the right direction. Finding the essence of what I want to say AND trying to pull out the scenes I WANT TO SEE on the screen. GOTTA make the movie you want to see!

IGC Animatic for Simpsons Video Game
This piece was produced as reference for the other IGC's that would be created later on. It did not appear in the game. My job on this was go to through the original piece that had been produced at EA and to both revise and 'Simpsonize' it. Interesting side note... the voices for these initial animatics were done by EA employees in-house, and they did a great job! The password to view this animatic is 'animatic'.
UFC Animatic Intro: Dream Sequence
This is the intro of the animatic for the film I am currently working on. The film opens up with a dream sequence that sets the stage for the main character's mental state at the start of the film (he has big ambitions, but feels trapped and unable to move out from underneath the shadows of some other giraffes- we will learn who they are when he comes out of the dream in the next sequence). This is the second version of the animatic (began working on this sequence in early June of 2011 and spent about 120+ hours to produce it). The entire film will be about ten minutes long and will probably take me a few years to animate. Want to make sure the story is working before I move into animation (excited to be animating soon though... hopefully in the beginning of 2012).

The First Scene from My Animatic
Below is the first scene from my animatic for my short animated film that I am producing. You'll notice some of the redcoats from my recent character design post. As I get further into the animatic (hoping to have this next version done by the late fall), I may post larger chunks of it. At this point, however, I am getting my feet wet with sharing work online. As an artist who did not grow up sharing my artwork online, that notion is a bit scary to me. So, I need to start slowly. I love feedback and welcome it. I understand that not seeing how this scene relates to any other shot in the film makes it hard to comment on things like story, but any thoughts and comments are appeciated. Thanks!

A Scene From My Animatic
This is scene-11 from the most recent version of my animatic... one of approximately one hundred and fifty scenes in the whole film. Yeah, I will be working on this for many years to come! In this scene, we are in the center of town (based on the site of George Washington's first inauguration at Federal Hall in New York) and our hero is being presented with an award.
