Italian Superman???

His Kryptonite would be Chef Boyardee.  He needs homemade pasta and sauce for his powers to be at full strength.

One Month Until Man of Steel...

Getting excited for the new Superman movie.  Did a few quick sketches tonight.  Would love to animate some of these and have fun with the character.  Would love to see a quirky looking superman cartoon.

More Giraffe Drawings

Been thinking a lot about my main character for my film. Lots of work to do still on new story, but excited about the new direction. It will be locked this summer (finally). I think it will be solid enough to proceed to layout/ animation (full on production). Boy, my hand/ wrist is going to hurt getting back into drawing shape. Really love the traditional hand drawn look. So excited to get back into production on a film. Getting close! But, story, Story, STORY is SOOOOO important that I want to make sure I have it right before I dive into animation.

Giraffe Sketches

Working on changing my main character to a female giraffe. Pushing the look/ design a bit away from the cartoony.

New Giraffe???

Taking a new approach to my story and the lead giraffe may change gender and get a makeover. This is he direction I'm leaning.

Messin' Around

Watched a couple Clint Eastwood films the other day while I was drawing a new kids book I am self publishing.  LOVE the old Clint films.  Fist Full of Dollars and Good, Bad, Ugly great!

Looking forward to spring break next week.  Planning on locking myself in a classroom at school and boarding Monday and Wednesday.  Will fill up the walls with blank paper and board all day both days.  Should have a good start after that for my next pass on my film.  REALLY enjoyed it the other day and got through a decent amount in an hour.  So, two days should be GREAT!

Back into the Groove

Got away from posting for the last month. The cough and crud has been going through the Richner household (no energy for a month). Back in the saddle. Had this image in my head of a sickly old man tied to his oxygen tank and still smoking. Thinking of my Uncle Tata I guess.

Zombies!

Seems like everyone is doing zombies these days. Gotta do my part. I did watch 'The Walking Dead' the other day (the first episode of new season), and I think I'm hooked for this season. I caught up with last season's episodes this a few weeks ago, so I think I'm ready to go!

Robot Dancing Concept

Thinking about taking a short break from my film to animate something. I have this dancing robot in my head. Picturing him walking out onto stage VERY mechanically then going into this really fun dance. Then, when its over, he stiffly walks off screen like a robot again. Got the urge to move away from key poses for a while and get something animating! Would be fun!

More Characters from Pitch Piece

Characters from another pitch piece. Brainstorming about animals living at a lab testing facility.

Go Buckeyes!

Have wanted to do something with OSU football for a while now. Someday. Go Bucks!

Characters from Pitch Piece

This was one of the characters from a project some friends of mine and I pitched at Disney not too long ago. Fun project (they liked it, but very similar to a few things they already had in development at the time).

Dancin' Man

Would like to animate this guy. Maybe tonight. Was listening to 'Pumped-up Kicks' while drawing this guy. Picturing a double bounce walk while doing a wave motion with front arm. Would be a fun walk cycle.

Robot

Forcing myself to build a habit of REGULARLY posting my work (drawing something each evening, or most evenings, that I can show). Here is a ROUGH drawing of a robot I sketched up tonight. Kind of retro. Impractical, over-engineered and bulky. I like the paratroopers jumping from its crotch and ships flying out of its chest.

Some Other Characters From Film Project

The women made the cut into the film. Unfortunately, the band got the axe. They evolved into another group. Like these guys though. Would have been fun to animate them.

Browns Fan

This is how I often feel most Sundays in the winter... scruffy, somewhat overweight and down that the Browns just lost another game that they could have/ should have won.

Superhero Concept

A lot of these character design/ concept design sketches are done pretty fast. They are rough, but I try to get them down whenever an idea pops into my head. I think this concept was about a superhero who would morph into a form that matched whatever state of mind he was in at the moment. If he was feeling confident, he could look like a typical superhero. If he was scared, he might turn into an infant.

Gladiator Concepts

Finding a lot of these types of character line ups for shorts I have in mind as I am going through my files. This is a concept about a kid who attends a gladiator event at the coliseum. He is so excited and cheering so hard that he falls into the arena. In the middle of the action and loving it, he watches and mimickes his favorite gladiators as they killed each other around him. A few would turn to strike him down but hesitate when they noticed he was a kid and get impaled themselves. In the end, the kid is the last man standing and is carried out of the arena on everyone's shoulders as a hero (his dream come true).
